On Wrapping Presents

I spent this afternoon wrapping Christmas presents for my family and friends.

Everyone who knows me knows that it's no secret that I am possibly the world's worst wrapper. No matter how I cut the paper either one of two things happen: there's too little and it rips, or there is too much resulting in extra hanging on the side. Usually it's the latter. I even cut down the excess paper, and there always seems to be too much when I tape the sides causing a bump of extra wrapping paper.

Family members used to get annoyed that the wrapping always looked sloppy, especially when I was helping them wrap presents for other people. I had hoped that with time my wrapping abilities would improve, but it's been fifteen years and no such luck.

In recent years I have come to accept the fact that my presents are never going to be neatly wrapped no matter how hard I try. I have also claimed this as my own wrapping style, making it my signature. Everyone who receives a wrapped gift from me can be assured that I wrapped it myself with love. It will never be perfect, but that's what makes it special. We each have special quirks that makes us unique, and this happens to be one of mine.

Besides, the joy I receive is watching them open the gift. The recipient is usually happier with the gift than the way it is wrapped. Not to mention that often times the wrapping paper is shredded only to be tossed in the trash.

My wrapping may be nothing pretty to look at, but the outside is merely a shell for what is housed within.

Fall

I've been pleased with the weather this week. Several weeks ago we said farewell to summer, and hello to my favorite season, fall. This week had the perfect weather: cool, without being too cold, and a calm wind. I love the south, but the southern summers are often too much. Perhaps it's just because I'm a hot-natured person. In the cooler weather, I've been able to enjoy regular walks without the discomfort the of summer heat. Speaking of the outdoors, I am sad that I missed the lunar eclipse last night. Oh well, there's always next time.

In addition to the weather, I love everything that comes with the fall. For one, it's the time of pumpkins. All the coffee shops around here are selling everything pumpkin spice: lattes, muffins, shakes, etc. The coffee shop I used to work at sold pumpkin spice drinks all year long, but they became especially popular during the months of September through November. I ate a pumpkin spice doughnut from Dunkin' Donuts a few weeks ago and it was delicious.

The colors of fall are gorgeous. I just love the varying golds, reds, and browns decorating the once green leaves before they plummet to the earth below. Last Friday I reached for a yellow leaf waiting its turn to fall. Upon immediate touch, it snapped off the branch in between my thumb and forefinger.

Lastly, with fall comes my favorite holiday, Halloween! I know at my age, I should not be participating with this holiday, but I find it too much fun. What other day of the year can you dress up as a different character without receiving odd looks (of course my choice in everyday clothing might turn a few heads too. :P ) Still, I am delighted everytime I walk down the store aisles containing Halloween items.

There is no Spirit store in my town this year, but there is one a town over, so there's no reason to be sad. I did enjoy it being so close last year, because I can (and have) spend hours in that store. I remember four years ago, when I lived close to the beach, my friend Lindsey and I would visit the local Spirit at least once a week up until Halloween. I do often consider moving back there, even though most of the people who made that city home have moved away.

I'm torn between two costume ideas for this year. Whatever I do decide on, I know it will be a fun night. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy this ideal weather while it lasts.

Fall leaves outside my work.

First Blog

Hello, everyone. This is my first time writing a blog, and I really don't know what to say. I am happy to finally be a part of a blogging community. :)

My blogs are most likely going to contain various content. I might do reviews of movies, shows, music, etc., or I might talk about my opinion on something, or I may post original writings, among other things I feel I want to share.

That's all for now. I'm looking forward to having fun with blogging.

:)
